About Me
Hub Hildenbrand
Guitarist · Composer · Mentor
My Path
I completed my studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands with distinction and was subsequently awarded a full scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, where I studied with influential jazz guitarists such as Mick Goodrick and John Abercrombie.
In search of my own musical language, I immersed myself deeply in the Turkish Makam tradition – studying with oud master Nuri Karademirli at the Conservatory for Turkish Music in Berlin – as well as in North Indian classical music, which I deepened under sarod maestro Ranajit Sengupta in Kolkata, India.
My Work
I have led ensembles such as Nenemia, Trio Rosenrot, the Hub Hildenbrand Trio, and Trio Morgenland, released 17 albums; and composed music for film and theatre.
Concert tours have taken me through Europe, India, and the USA – with performances at festivals such as the Delhi International Arts Festival, the Berlin-Istanbul Festival, folkBALTICA, Bardentreffen, and Pafos – European Capital of Culture 2017.
I have collaborated with renowned artists including Palle Mikkelborg, Hein van de Geyn, Nuri Karademirli, Ranajit Sengupta, Levent Yildrim, Farhad Safari, Zacharias Spyridakis, and Canberk Ulaş – artistic encounters that continue to shape my work to this day.
My projects have been supported by institutions such as the Berlin Senate, Initiative Musik, the German Music Council, Musikfonds, and the Goethe-Institut.
My Teaching
I have been teaching guitar since 1998 – at public and private music schools, as well as independently.
Since 2015, I’ve been teaching exclusively in a private one-on-one format.
Today, I work with students both in person in Berlin and worldwide through online sessions.
I have given masterclasses at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg and the BIMM Institute Berlin, and served as a lecturer at the Conservatory for Turkish Music.
Advanced Guitar Book
The Advanced Guitar Book rew out of more than three decades of intensive musical practice and research – a comprehensive digital compendium offering profound insights into both theory and practice.
It is intended for musicians who seek to go beyond boundaries and explore the universal language of music in its full depth.
